YouTube vs. Vimeo

Although I'm not crazy about the interface of Vimeo, it has a clear advantage over YouTube in terms of picture quality.

Compare the latest video from Grace, a trailer for "The Awakening"; Grace's August sermon series.

This is YouTube:

And this is Vimeo:

The Awakening [trailer] from Dave Hartland on Vimeo.

It is obvious which one is better. My question is whether the ugliness of Vimeo's interface should be a factor in deciding whether to begin using it. Hmm. Thoughts?

the vimeo quality is much better, but i was having a bit of buffering problems with the vimeo video.
I have never heard of vimeo until today. I say stick with youtube. It is the most used video upload site... quantity (of people watching) is always better that quality.

i also had a few glitches with the vimeo.

and my thoughts from my email:

See, I find the vimeo interface (player - when embedded in web pages) to be much more appealing then youtube, because for one thing, all the controls disappear enabling you to completely focus on the video. The quality is very sleek.

My only problem --- is vimeo as "viral" as youtube and well known? I feel like youtube gets SUCH better response as far as views, forwarding quality, etc.

but maybe it doesn't matter - if the quality is that much improved.

Ugliness?

Vimeo is far from ugly.
Each button ha a simple and effective icon, completly intuitive.
Their logo is simple yet elegant.
The embed interfave is unobstrusive and isn't riddled with unneccesary features.

Whereas youtube seems outdated, messy and overcomplicated.

Vimeo isn't as popular as Youtube yet, and probably never will be. But the relativly small community is a great advantage.

Sorry but it's not the same video. Look at the text. Are you sure the differnces in quality are caused by the different compressions of vimeo or youtube?

Youtube has great quality videos, I think much better then vimeo.

but the trick is you HAVE to save the ORIGNAL video file at 1280x720. And sadly most people do not know this. and all the "media savvy" kids who think vimeo is where all the cool kids hang out know this. But here is the same vid uploaded to both.

then it ends up like this.

Youtube - (remember to click - watch in HD-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zApPJ9xakyg

Vimeo - http://www.vimeo.com/3008869

And tell me which is better quality?
